IIT Palakkad Celebrates Institute Day with Grand Commemoration
The Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad celebrated the Institute Day on 19 January 2024 with great fervor. Dr. Venu Vasudevan, IAS, Chief Secretary to the Government of Kerala, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. On this auspicious occasion, Dr. Venu unveiled the inaugural edition of the Institute Newsletter, 'Sahyadri TechXpress' - Reflections of IIT Palakkad.
The Chief Guest also presented the Prof. M. C. Valsakumar Memorial Award, named in memory of Professor Late M. C. Valsakumar, honoring the highest JAM Scorer among students admitted to the M.Sc Physics program during 2023-24, the highest CGPA among the first-year students of M.Sc Physics during 2022-23, and Merit-cum-means scholarship for the highest CGPA among eligible first-year students of M.Sc Physics during 2022-23.
PG and UG toppers of each batch, along with winners of technical, cultural, and sports events, were honored by Prof. A. Seshadri Sekhar, Director, IIT Palakkad. He also presented mementos to faculty and staff who rendered their services for the last six years and to those who took additional responsibilities.
In his captivating address, the Chief Guest expressed that Kerala is poised to lead the third generation of higher education in the country. "We have set up a knowledge economy mission," he added. He explained that a knowledge economy focuses on and prides itself on knowledge as the fundamental driver of the economy. Creating an environment that helps intelligent people live happy lives, innovate, and produce ideas will shape the world - a world people would prefer to stay and work in.
Prof. A. Seshadri Sekhar listed the achievements and progress made by the Institute in the year 2022-2023. The program concluded with a vibrant cultural program presented by staff and faculty.
