IIT Palakkad hosts expert talk on Engineered Landfills

Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Palakkad in association with The Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) Palakkad Chapter organized an expert talk on "Engineered Landfills: Field-Scale Geotechnical Testing, Numerical Modeling, and Sustainable Leachate Management" on 25 June 2026 at the Sahyadri Campus.

The session was delivered by Prof. Milind V. Khire, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, USA. A renowned geoenvironmental engineer with over three decades of experience in academia, consulting, and research, Prof. Khire shared insights into advanced landfill engineering practices, sustainable waste management, and innovative approaches to leachate control. The talk highlighted the role of field-scale testing, numerical modeling, and emerging technologies in enhancing the performance and sustainability of engineered landfill systems.
